A SeHCAT scan is a diagnostic test to check how well your gut is able to absorb bile acids. If the absorption is poor, this can result in chronic (long term) diarrhoea. This scan can help to diagnose bile acid malabsorption and help your doctor decide the best treatment for you.

What can a SeHCAT scan diagnose?
The scan will measure the amount of radioactivity in your body after you’ve swallowed a capsule. The capsule contains a chemical like bile salt and a small amount of radioactive tracer. This helps us to diagnose and treat bile acid malabsorption (BAM).
How long does SeHCAT scan results take?
