What is Viton GFLT?
Viton™ GFLT-200S is a low viscosity peroxide-curable fluoroelastomer gum with 67% fluorine content. It offers an excellent combination of low-temperature flexibility and resistance to fluids and oils. Manufacturer: Chemours.
What is the difference between Viton and Viton A?
VITON ® A GASKET MATERIAL Exceptionally good resistance even at temperatures that can stiffen other non-fluorinated elastomers. Viton® A is resistant to atmospheric oxidation, sun, weather, and has excellent resistance to fungus and mold.
What is the difference between nitrile and Viton?
The key difference between nitrile and Viton is that nitrile rubber compounds have comparatively a low density while Viton has comparatively a large density. However, by looking at the material, we can identify Viton by its appearance of green-brown colour where nitrile rubber has a yellow colour.
What are the different grades of Viton?
There are four major families of Viton™ fluoroelastomers: A, B, F, and ETP, each with its own unique performance characteristics.
Is Viton plastic or rubber?
Viton is a synthetic, floronated hydrocarbon (fluorocarbon) rubber product produced and trademarked by DuPont Performance Elastomers (Viton refers to all types of DuPont fluoro-rubbers). Different kinds of fluoroelastomers possess different swell behaviors, and their processing / compression set resistance.
What is Viton used for?
A Viton™ seal is simply a seal manufactured from Viton™. These seals or gaskets are commonly used to seal leaks, valves, pumps and similar. Viton™ o rings are the most common type of seal, which we provide here at NES in a variety of sizes and profiles.
Does Viton absorb water?
Viton can absorb considerable amount of water vapor, of the order of 0.1% of its mass at room temperature and at 50% relative humidity.
Is Viton good for hot water?
Viton® sealing products are resistant to high temperatures, petroleum products, solvents, and a wide range of chemicals. In general, this material is compatible with hydrocarbons, but incompatible with acetones, ketones, steam, hot water, and organic acids.
Which is better Viton or PTFE?
Viton vs Teflon (PTFE) – Viton offers a greater temperature resistance but falls short of Teflons(PTFE) chemical resistance. Also, Teflon is slightly less thermally resistant but offers much more in the way of non-adhesive properties.
Where is Viton used?
Well, Viton™ is frequently used in appliance processing, automotive and chemical industries. We also supply Viton™ products to aerospace companies, oil and gas exploration industries and petroleum refining and transportation businesses.
How strong is Viton?
High temperatures: A Viton™ o ring will withstand temperatures from -20°C up to 210°C. Chemicals: Viton™ can withstand a range of chemicals, including oils, acids, silicone fluids and gasses as well as halogenated and aromatic hydrocarbons.
Is Viton A rubber or plastic?
What causes Viton to swell?
Viton® also is known for its excellent chemical resistance, making it a universal o-ring material. When rubber is introduced to chemicals, it can absorb the fluid like a sponge, causing it to swell.
Is Viton water resistant?
FKM Viton Brown & Black Rubber is resistant to water, steam, oxygen, ozone, mineral, animal and vegetable oils and greases, diesel oil, petroleum based hydraulic fluids, aliphatic, aromatic fuels and methanol fuel.
Is Viton suitable for water?
Fluorocarbon (Viton®/FKM) Suited for: General purpose sealing, such as petroleum oils, water and some hydraulic fluids.
Is Viton better than silicone?
Both materials are well suited for use in the -30 to 205°C range. Silicone has an advantage in lower temperatures and Silicone has an advantage in higher temperatures. Marco offers specific compound formulations extending these ranges even futher as can be seen in the following compound comparison chart.
How long do Viton seals last?
O-Ring Shelf Life Recommendation per AS5316
Elastomer Family | ASTM | Shelf Life |
---|---|---|
Fluorocarbon (Viton) | FKM | Unlimited |
Fluorosilicone | FVMQ | Unlimited |
Hydrogenated Nitrile, HNBR or HSN | HNBR | 15 Years |
Nitrile (Buna-N or NBR) | NBR | 15 Years |
Can you use Viton with water?
With pressure above 2,000 psi, Viton may be satisfactory with water as static applications, but is not ideal for dynamic applications such as rotating shafts or hydraulic cylinder rod and piston seals.
