How do Megalugs work?
The wedge style MEGALUG design reacts to the amount of force acting on the joint. When each wedge is set, the wedge teeth penetrate the pipe’s outer surface, and the wedge does not move on the pipe. There is very little change in this interface until the wedge movement begins inside the pocket of the main casting.
When would you use a restrained joint pipe?
Restrained joint pipe and fittings are used in pressurized Ductile Iron pipelines to prevent the joints of the line from separating due to thrust forces. Thrust forces generally occur at changes of direction in the line.

Do you need thrust blocks for HDPE pipe?
HDPE pipe and fittings joined by heat fusion are self-restrained in all applications, and therefore do not require thrust blocks, provided the entire system is fused. Thrust blocks may be required in cases where special gasketed mechanical fittings are used.
Why thrust block is required?
Thrust blocks are only required for Vinidex PE pipes in pressure applications where the joint types do not resist longitudinal loads. For non-end-load resisting joints, thrust blocks must be provided at all changes in direction and other points of potential pull-out forces, e.g., bends, valves, tees etc.
